This north facing window known as ”The Griffin Window”,
shows on the outside of the church, the names of, H.
GRIFFIN, C. GRIFFIN & S. GRIFFIN. They are
the names of Cornelius GRIFFIN, and two sisters,
Henrietta & Sarah GRIFFIN. Inside
the church are three plaques painted on the window. 1.
In affectionate remembrance of Henrietta GRIFFIN,
of Portsea, Hants, who died 6th March 1848
aged 65 years. Interred at St Peters,
Bishopton, Warwickshire. 2. This Mortuary Chapel
and Monument were erected by Cornelius GRIFFIN,
Vicar of this Parish since 1846 to record and perpetuate
the Remembrance of two excellent Sisters who were his
best earthly comforts in lifes weary pilgrimage. 3.
A memorial of Esteem and regard to Sarah GRIFFIN,
of Portsea, Hants, who died 6th August 1836
aged 59 years. Interred at St Peters,
Walworth, Surrey. |
